Why do well known companies such as McDonald’s still advertise?

I am guessing most people who have seen this ad, will know it is McDonald’s so why does McDonald’s continue to advertise? 

McDonald’s advertises for the same reason Coke and Pepsi advertise: to keep their brand in the consumers’ minds. Yes, we’re all aware that they exist. But when it comes time to eat or drink something, they want you to think of them first.

Of course, they also advertise to let people know of a new product or promotion. But even that is so the brand remains fresh and continues to be favoured.

Because you were not thinking, I’m hungry yet, or if you were , you couldn’t decide what to eat. The ad hopefully makes you say. I’m hungry and I want some McDonald’s food. Now you can call Uber and they will deliver it to you so you can binge watch some TV shows.

Imagine if McDonald’s stopped all advertising tomorrow. There is still a good chance that they will be the first place people think of when looking for a new fast food meal for a short while yet. However, after a while of advertising hiatus, McDonald’s began to fade into obscurity. As a result, other fast-food restaurants would attempt to take over the newly opened market and be the new market leader.

There have been dozens of new and updated menu items from McDonald’s over the years. The marketing of what’s new regularly boosts sales for new and old products alike. Without advertising, the public would not be aware of these exciting additions to the menu.
